Here is Gordon’s summary.

The first kingdom, the physical realm of this world, needs no introduction. On the other hand, God’s Kingdom, the spiritual realm, is hidden. Most people in this world have been blinded by our enemy, such that they don’t even know that there is such a thing. Jesus commanded his disciples to go and proclaim that ‘the Kingdom of Heaven is here’. They were to proclaim this to the Jews, God’s chosen people, who should have known a bit about the Kingdom, but even they were spiritually dull if not spiritually blind prior to our Lord’s ministry.

In today’s supposedly post-Christian society, the need to spread the word about the Kingdom of Heaven is much greater, but how many Christians know enough about the Kingdom to proclaim its closeness? What is its nature? Who is, or isn’t, in it? How does it operate? How does this spiritual realm interact with the physical realm? Why is it of primary importance to everyone? How do we even know that this Kingdom is true?

Some church leaders and Christian academics have only muddied the waters on this topic. There is a need for clarity. Jesus himself taught at length about the Kingdom, but he still left many questions unanswered – probably because the answers were beyond our understanding. Yet a favoured few have had historic and modern glimpses of the Kingdom, with surprising insights and consistency. We look at some of these unlikely sources, and gain encouragement.

Dr Gordon Stanger is a geologist, hydrologist, water resources specialist, and a climate-change impact analyst. He is an RFA committee member and is semi-retired.
