Cosmology has fascinated humanity for thousands of years. Throughout history our understanding of the universe has undergone periodic revolutions, each offering a deeper insight into reality. The concept of the multiverse is the latest revolution, and as expected it has attracted criticism from parts of the scientific and religious establishments. Multiverse cosmology has far reaching implications for the concept of creation and for the nature of science. On the 26th 0f November, Dr Colin Coleman will summarize the history of cosmology using non-technical language, and show how the multiverse concept emerges from principles of reason, theory and philosophy.
The speaker will be Dr Colin Coleman. Colin Coleman received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Sydney and Doctor of Philosophy in Astrophysics from the Australian National University. He held research fellowship positions at Oxford (UK) and Trieste (Italy) and a lectureship at Monash University undertaking research in astrophysics and cosmology. In 1990 he joined the Defence Science and Technology Organisation working on performance analysis of guided weapon systems, and subsequently led research groups responsible for Guidance and Control technology and RF Seekers.
