It was planned that David Strong would present Aliens and Christianity, but there has been a communications breakdown. Instead, I will speak on Aging and Death.
On this coming Sunday I will be speaking on Aging and Death and so I am adapting this talk for RFA; So, I have done the research.

All images are placed on separate layers. They can be removed or altered if you need to. Some gradients were used. No transparencies.
For a long time, I have been fascinated by Ecclesiastes 12. It starts with the statement, ‘Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”’. It then goes on to describe our experience as we decline as we age and eventually die. Of course, the subject matter can be depressing, but the imagery in Ecclesiastes is beautiful and can almost make you laugh.
I have generally followed a healthy lifestyle and thought of myself as unbreakable. However, on August the 9th, I had a stroke. I have Atrial fibrillation and a clot formed in my heart and went to my brain. I had double vision and then slumped over my computer. I was detected almost instantly; the ambulance came quickly and took me to the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH). They gave me a CT scan, detected the clot, and administered strong blood thinners. During this time, I could not speak, only utter sounds. However, in less than 3 hours I discovered I could speak again, and tests revealed that I had a full recovery. What this taught me is that I am not unbreakable at all. Life is delicate and I could go at any time.
Enough of that. The topics that I will cover are:
- Why do we decline and die? Biological and theological reasons.
- The imagery in Ecclesiastes 12. What does it mean?
- The futility of “living under the sun”
- The coming judgement
- What does the Bible teach about dying and what happens with life after death
- How should we live during these evil days?
- What is most important in life?
